A lifelong love of cycling and hatred of hills prompted serial entrepreneur Don DiCostanzo to cofound Pedego Electric Bikes in 2008 with his best friend Terry Sherry. Starting with his own capital and no experience in the bicycling industry, Don parlayed his automotive industry experience and entrepreneurial knowhow to build the best electric bike company. And today, Pedego is the #1 electric bike brand in the U.S. according to Navigant Research. Don is here to share more of his endeavors. 1. Early action can result in positive unintended consequences. While on Critical Mass Radio Show, Don DiCostanzo shared that his industry and brand were affected by the recent tariff agreement. However, Don explained that, because his company effectively reacted and adapted to the changes, Pedego was able to shift in such a way that resulted in a strategic competitive advantage.
2. Media is powerful. One way that Pedego has continued to thrive in the market is that everyone loves riding Pedego bikes even celebrities! Through authentic celebrity endorsement, the brand was able to gain valuable exposure in a fun, natural way that was true to the brand.
3. You are not just a company; you are a brand! When it comes to growing your company, don’t forget to think about, and grow your company as, a brand as well. Public relations and other marketing initiatives are just some of the many ways you can build brand equity.
